Well, it finally happened. We needed a tow. I guess everyone needs a little help at certain times in their lives. The day started out so nicely. We motored into Boot Key Harbor in Marathon, FL. A beautiful little key between Key West and Key Largo. I know, there are lots of keys between those Read More
Category: Key West
Key West, what a weird and fantastic place. The first time we visited was for Fantasy Fest several years ago. Talk about weird. But we had a great time. Jeff woke up one morning with pierced ears and pink toenails. Hmmm
Sailing to Key West on our own boat was special. We had a difficult time getting a slip in any of the marinas, so we tried to anchor. What a pain. So many boats, and so many captains telling us how hard it was to set the anchor. It took us over an hour to find a good spot and set it, but we weren’t happy about it. We wanted to enjoy everything Key West had to offer. And taking our dinghy (which was unreliable at the time) all the way through the anchorage, at night, after one or maybe many more cocktails was not ideal.
So, after two nights at anchor, I (Adrienne) waltzed in to one of the marina offices, batted my eyelashes and presented my best smile. A minute later, we were granted two nights on the fuel dock. SCORE!!!
We’ve been back to Key West a few times since then and love it every time. I’d even be ok visiting by car, but it wouldn’t be the same. There’s nothing like enjoying a night out on the Key West town and stumbling back to your boat, provided it’s in a marina.

What Happens in Vegas, I mean – Key West…
Key West is a very interesting place. It’s quaint and beautiful, filled with lush landscaping, architecture that only Key West can appreciate, and some of the best food I’ve ever eaten on the front porch of an old stately home. People everywhere travel by bicycle or scooter. It’s very quiet, laid back and friendly. But Read More
I Hate Docking!
After 2 1/2 days of motor sailing from Ft. Lauderdale, dodging crab traps the whole way, we arrived in Key West at the Stock Island Marina. Whoop, whoop! Coming into a marina always gives me anxiety. I hate it. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – I HATE DOCKING! I’m so afraid Read More
Crab Trap Dodge Ball
I’ve never seen so many crab traps in my life. Or are they lobster traps? Who knows. I don’t care. We spent no less than eight hours dodging them between Rodriguez Key and Ramrod Key. They’re really hard to see in the picture, but I assure you they’re there, like 50′ away from each other Read More
Look Out Key West. Here We Come!
Don’t you hate when your alarm goes off five minutes before you have to get up? Ugh, 5:55 came early this morning. But we wanted to get off the dock by 6:30, so you do what you have to do. We slipped the lines at 6:45 and quietly motored out of the marina, into the Read More
