When we left for The Bahamas in 2021, I had no idea how hard it would be to not see my family for four months. Well, I found out. Family is everything. They make you happy, stressed out, feel loved, exhausted, and exhilarated all at the same time. Nothing else I know of does that, Read More
Category: Sailing in The Bahamas
Sailing in The Bahamas was definitely on our bucket list. And now we can scratch it off. It’s not a “been there, done that” kind of thing. But after spending 3 months in 2021 and 6 months in 2022 sailing in The Bahamas, we can honestly say “We’ve done that!”
We spent most of our time sailing the Exuma chain of islands, specifically the Exuma Land and Sea Park. It’s a 176 square mile nature preserve, and it’s breathtaking. Vacationing here is only possible by boat if you really want to experience it. But make sure your boat has sleeping quarters, a head (bathroom) and a galley (kitchen), because you won’t find any of that there. You’ll only find pristine beaches and crystal clear water, so clear that you can see sea life on the ocean floor 20 feet down.
We also sailed to the Ragged Islands, a desolate island chain only 50 miles from Cuba, and home to only 60 residents, mostly fishermen. And visiting Long Island and Cat Island did not disappoint. Driving on the wrong side of the road took some getting used to (for me. Jeff took to it just fine.)
But we really enjoyed sailing Eleuthera and Harbor Island northeast of the Exumas. While these islands definitely have a Bahamian vibe, they are more westernized, more modern, if you will. We aren’t sure when we’ll sail back to The Bahamas, but we’ll definitely hit those two islands again.
We hope you enjoy reading about our time sailing in The Bahamas. And if you want more action, stop by the Our Vlogs page, or visit our YouTube channel directly, Sailing Wind Therapy.
Who Does YouTube Think They Are?
Ahhh, YouTube. One of the greatest apps created. People all over the planet, talented or not, wealthy, modest, or not, super good looking, fairly attractive, or not, anyone can be a star. All you have to do is crack the code. Oh, and don’t piss off the gate keepers. Well, I’m not in this for Read More
Drone Shot
See this picture? It was taken with our friend’s drone. Thanks Shane and Tanya. I love drone shots. They’re so gorgeous, especially when the subject is the tropics. Like here, at Boysie Cay in the Exumas. You truly capture the color of the water, the contrast of the sand, and you even get a birdseye Read More
Stingray Shuffle
We’ve seen lots of sea life here in The Bahamas. Parrot fish, lobsters, turtles, lemon sharks, nurse sharks, and several varieties of rays. We were dinking around Prime Cay one day and saw so many huge stingrays, some as wide as our dinghy! They’re a bit menacing looking. Not so much their grey smooth bodies, Read More
That One Time, When You Forgot To…
Remember that one time, when you went sailing? The waves were bigger than you thought they were going to be, weren’t they? Not only were they bigger, but they were coming from in front of the beam, not from behind it, where they were supposed to be coming from. Right? Remember that? You relied on Read More
Think It’s Enough?
I LOVE rose champagne! Can you tell? So last year, when I saw that Trentadue Vineyards in Sonoma County (possibly my favorite US vineyard) was having a sale on it, I decided to try it. I put half a case in my shopping cart and emailed my friend to see if she wanted to split Read More
Why We Went Home
When your family grows this beautifully, you simply have to go home for a while. Enough said.
Tuna Tar Tar
We aren’t skilled fishermen, by any means. But we think we’ve done all right so far. Here is our 4th fish ever, a 24″ black fin tuna. A few weeks ago, something really big grabbed our line. We think we caught a Mahi and a great white shark took it, along with 90% of our Read More
Time to Become a Diesel Mechanic
Your engine won’t start. What do you do? Call a mechanic, unless you happen to be one. Or, if you’ve taken a diesel mechanics course, try and find your notes. Over the last year, this has happened to us a few times. We get ready to sail for the day or a weekend, and the Read More
It Always Happens at Night
Ahhh, paradise. That’s what it is in the Bahamas. Paradise. White sandy beaches, crystal clear water, cool gentle breezes, and lots of rum. We’d heard about this little beach off of Prime Cay. No one ever goes there. You get the whole place all to yourself. Go past the first beach. Then, if you can Read More
