Our first night. We made it to Venice Beach. I’m worried about this whole sea sickness thing, though. It seems to be getting worse. Maybe it’s because I’m getting older. I don’t know. But I’m not sure how I’m going to sail around the world if I keep getting sick to my stomach every time the waves are bigger than 3′. Maybe I’ll just get used to it when we start doing it every day.
But for now, I’ll enjoy the time at anchor or in a marina, like last night. We spent the night tied up at the dock at the Crow’s Nest Marina in Venice Beach, FL. We like it here. Nice people, good facilities, and excellent house-made potato chips at the restaurant.
We woke up in the morning to cold and wet everything. But we put on our foul weather gear and set out at 8:30AM for an overnight sail to Key West. The winds were coming from the wrong direction and were much stronger than predicted. So we ended up tacking down the Gulf of Mexico. And after 8 hours of being tossed around in the wet, damp air, we called it a night and anchored just inside Boca Grand Pass.
We’ll try again tomorrow. And for now, I think I’ll knit a scarf.
