This is our 2nd time in Warderick Wells. We love it here. It’s part of the Exuma National Park System. No-one lives on the islands except for the park rangers. There aren’t any resorts or restaurants, and fishing is prohibited. There is also extremely limited wifi and cell service.
The last time we were here, we heard that there were three places you might get some cell service; on a bench just outside the park office, on the very top of Boo Boo Hill, and on the top of Davis Ruins. We were in need of some service, so we picked up Andy from OliLuki and hiked to the Davis Ruins. Luckily, Jeff is really good at finding trails, because the map wasn’t as good as we’d hoped. We followed a rock wall, passed the poison wood tree, climbed over a sharp coral ridge and stepped across holes the size of our heads, all in search of that ever-elusive breath of cell service. We pulled out our phones and hoped for the best.
As the wind blew our direction, the bars began to appear on our phones. Come on wind – blow harder! As the wind got stronger, so did our cell signals. It was literally a gift from heaven. Well, maybe not heaven, but the winds were definitely responsible.
So, we were able to check email (not that we have anything important because we don’t have jobs) and send a few texts. Pictures and phone calls were just not cooperating. But the view was spectacular!
Thanks Warderick Wells Wind Gods!
