Happy Chanukah everybody! The winds have finally settled down to 25 knots. Seas should be 3 – 6’ tomorrow, so we’re finally leaving Highbourne Cay. It’s a nice place, super beautiful, but also crazy expensive and a bit boring. I don’t know how people go to places like this for a week at a time without losing their minds. You can only ride a bike the same 3-mile loop so many times. I have to have something to do, and I needed a break from my Marine Diesel Mechanics book.
At 8:15 AM we are off the dock headed to Nassau. We decided against the main at first, then settled for a single reef. Both sails are now up and we’re sailing on a starboard tack at 120 degrees, making between 7 – 8.5 knots. It’s a little bumpy but nothing compared to the beginning of our journey, or compared to what the boaters going the other direction are putting up with.
It’s 2:00 and we finally dropped the anchor in the Western Channel just past the cruise ships. Atlantis is right in front of us. The winds are still 14 – 18 knots in here and the water is uneasy, but it’ll do. It’s amazing how things like this used to scare me. Now it’s just part of the deal. Mike is flying out tomorrow, and we need groceries, propane and gas for the dinghy. We are also really in the mood for some bar food.
Later that night – Got our bar food and found a grocery store. A little chaotic, but we got what we needed, except for the propane. We’re going to try and hold out till we get to Ft. Lauderdale. If we run out, we’ll be eating tuna salad and peanut butter for the rest of the week. Things could be worse.
We came back to the boat. It’s exactly where we left it. I love it when that happens. Now we’re trying really hard to stay awake. It’s 7:15 PM. Ha!
