Hidden Bay is just that. Hidden. You’d never know it was there or how beautiful it is if you were flying by the entrance with the throttle wide open. We found it on the map and decided to check it out, hopefully spend the night.
This beautiful harbor on the north end of Bainbridge Island is well protected, surrounded by super expensive homes, and covered with lush foliage. Flowers are abundant. People motor in and out in their dinghies checking their crab traps. Hmm. It’s a mystery. Will they have to buy dinner tonight or not? The local teenagers are crazy, swimming all day in that frigid water. I stuck my toe in. That was enough.
We decided to take a hike through the park since a taking dip was off the table. Well, it wasn’t much of a park. Really just a place to park your car if you wanted to freeze your butt off swimming for the day. But we kept going, admiring the residential landscaping, complaining about the hills, getting some much needed exercise.
We passed the coolest tree in someone’s front yard. It had this awesome limb that just begged the kid in every adult to come over and have a quick sit. This kid in me just couldn’t resist. After all, the limb was just 5′ off the road. The homeowners, on the other hand, were those nasty parents who screamed at every kid in the neighborhood. I thought they were going to smash their front window as they banged furiously on it to get me to leave. If I had a tree like that in my front yard, I would put a swing on it. These people just don’t know how to have a good time.
Wanting to make sure we didn’t get lost, Jeff was checking the map on his phone. “We have to find the ‘Famous Frog Rock'”, he said. It’s just half a mile up the road.
Found it!
