And so it begins…

We’re Jeff and Adrienne, also known as Captain and Calypso in the biker world. And this is our story.

We found each other through an online dating service in February 2007, and finally met after four weeks of emailing, texting and talking on the phone. It truly was love at first sight. One day early in our relationship, I asked Jeff if he rode a motorcycle. He said, “I always wanted to, but my mother and my ex-wife would never let me get a bike.” I wanted to ride so we took the motorcycle riding class together. I asked him if he had ever fired a gun. He said, “I always wanted to, but my mother and my ex-wife would never let me.” I had learned to handle a shot gun when I was in high school, so we took the concealed weapons permit class together. Then I asked him if he liked sailing. He said, “I sailed 8’ Sunfish boats in summer camp. As an adult, I always wanted to go sailing, but my mother and my ex-wife got seasick. Let’s get married!” So we did. Soon after we began attending boat shows in St. Petersburg, Miami, and Annapolis.

In 2010 we purchased a 1989 Hunter 25, a great little boat that we sailed all of three times. Life got in the way. But we did manage to find time to watch the entire Distant Shores series, a TV show produced by Paul and Sheryl Shard who have been sailing the Bahamas, Caribbean and Europe for the last 30 years. That got us thinking, “Do people really do this? Could we do this? Do we want to do this?” The answer to all three of those questions was an overwhelming “YES”. In 2013, after four years of visiting boat shows, we decided on a slight upgrade from our 25’ mono-hull to a Leopard 48 Catamaran. Don’t worry, we took lessons.

We named her Ru-Ach, Hebrew for “Breath of God” or “wind”. She was berthed in the British Virgin Islands in the Moorings Charter Program, which we loved. It gave us the opportunity to learn how to sail our boat during our vacation time while letting someone else manage the costs and maintenance. We fell in love with the BVI, the people, the islands, the vibe, it’s a special place. Then, along came Irma. Not only did this massive hurricane destroy Ru-Ach, she destroyed what had become a second home to us.

So here we are, two years later. The BVI is well on the road to recovery, and we are picking up our new baby, a Leopard 45 named Wind Therapy, a tribute to our sailing and motorcycle lives.

Life has definitely changed over the years. Now we own four Harleys, the firearm issue shall remain private, and we are on our third sail boat. We’re going to spend the next year preparing for what we hope will be a 10-year sail around the globe.

We hope you enjoy following us in our travels through this blog site. If you want more, visit our YouTube channel – Sailing Wind Therapy. We hope to begin posting in January 2020.
